This is a short fantasy-orchestra album named "A String to the Sky". This album was made for the music jam "OST Composing 9" that lasted around 9 days. The goal was to make a video game soundtrack inspired by an image or a text or both that were given in the 1st day. I chose the picture. There are 6 tracks. The cover-art is made by myself.

The fictional game is "A String to the Sky". It's an action-adventure game where the world has been saved by heroes from a demon that has raged for centuries. The player controls a human-bird that learns how to fly and is part of the "Feather Tale Guild", a non-official guild which purpose is to perpetuate history. Once the world was saved, the guild chooses the player with other people to explore the world that was controlled once by the demon and to learn about the lost history of this world.

   1 - Feather Tale:

This track is meant to be the main menu theme. It introduces the leitmotiv of the "Feather Tale Guild". I wanted it to have a dancing vibe, hence the violins playing in staccato and each note after a silence is the same note that ended before. The image gave me the inspiration with the melody played with a violin. I used two out of the three leitmotivs I've composed, the second is the Allagad leitmotiv which can be heard on the piano which is the forgotten world.

   2 - The Wind of a Flutter:

The Wind of a Flutter is more calm and the scene is happening at the hometown of the main character. It has this hesitation with the harp repeating the same motif that goes forward then backward and the shaker that mimics the tick of a clock on the left ear ; the strings play a melody, but keeps going without a conclusion, it's a one long part until the end that gives a small resolution.

   3 - Fast Travel:

There, the main character has to learn how to fly and especially he learns a new trick to travel faster by using his environment. The beginning is calm, but keeps the tension with the softness of the congas and the leitmotiv of the "Feather Tale Guild" is played. Then the Taiko going suddenly is the character finally starting to test the fast travel. I took inspiration of "New Tail" from John Powell to give this clumsiness of trying a new hard thing, but then mastering it at the end.

4 - First Flight to the Forgotten World:

There, the day where all the explorers gather to explore for the first time the lost world that was controlled once by the demon. With excitation and fear, the track begins softly with the strings with mystery. The second part is them making up their mind that they will not be home for a long time and what they will do is dangerous. In the third part, it's their departure with that sudden taiko and the leitmotiv of the main character is introduced for the first time on the strings + flute so there is this softness, emotional impact ; then it switches to the Feather Tale Guild leitmotiv on the strings so it goes from the main character to the whole guild going on an adventure. Then the brass plays the Allagad incomplete melody to remind the objective of the guild : exploring the lost world.

5 - Seeking the Lost Path:

Arrived to the lost world, the group find out that almost everything was destroyed and so to find a proper path is difficult. They finally arrive in a mysterious forest. The beginning is more upbeat to imitate them walking calmly in the forest with the flutes and violins playing in staccato then followed by one bar of legato. The second part is the character trying to figure out where to go, that's why it's in minor and mostly played with the strings. The third part is the character slowly figuring out the solution with the BPM increasing ; the two guitars especially the one in the right playing a triplet so it has this polyrythmic section ; the piano at the end give a mystery vibe and the music stops when people finally gets out of the forest.

The Feather Tale Guild leitmotiv is again played on the strings in the third part and the Allagad leitmotiv is played during the last second on the bagpipes symbolizing them getting closer to a big city.

   6 - Allagad, the Long-Forgotten Fortress:

The characters finally see the first big city in the lost world that seems in good shape. The beginning is only the strings and the tuba, the strings represents the environment and the state of mind of the characters and the tuba represents Allagad, the big fortress seen from afar.

The second part begins softly, but catchy as they are being chased by enemies. All the way was dangerous, but they have this hope rising up again when they see their objectives in front of them, so they finally decide to rush and to fly towards Allagad. The final note is them falling due to enemies attack. The Feather Tale Guild leitmotiv is played, so it focuses on the group as a whole.

The third part starts with the choir singing those notes as they are getting closer to death with everyone down. Then the guitar shows up alone which symbolizes the main character seeing everything around them, telling themselves if this is the end. The choir then starts again repeating a melody, it's the main character figuring out that Allagad might have a solution as it's not a normal city, but a fortress. The character gathers strength to fly towards Allagad to activate its defenses.

The fourth part is Allagad's full theme with the brass coming suddenly, breaking the 2 minutes of despair with something powerful. The characters are in awe when seeing the fortress from closer. While activating the defenses, they realize the majesty of the fortress. The melody is played on the french horns + trumpets, then by the strings, then by both.

This track is a reunion of all the leitmotivs with Allagad's melody finally played fully. I wanted it to make a tribute to the soundtrack "Minas Tirith" by Howard Shore in the 4th part ; and the vibe of the second part is also a small tribute to "Kaamelott" by Alexandre Astier.
